Club jerseys in 4 steps — from team logo to full kit
A club jersey is rarely a single shirt — almost always a coordinated kit of several components: home jersey in club colours, away jersey in a complementary colour (governing-body visibility rule), training t-shirt for midweek practice and a warm-up hoodie for the cold phase before kick-off. We deliver this full kit in four steps — collect team sizes, upload design with logo and sponsors, populate the player list with names and back numbers, submit the order. From 10 jerseys, EU shipping 5–8 working days. Background on the complete B2B workflow for clubs in the club textiles checklist.
Full kits: home, away, training shirt plus warm-up hoodie
A typical full kit for a men's senior football team comprises 15 home jerseys in club colour (e.g. blue and white), 15 away jerseys in the contrasting colour (e.g. red or yellow), 15 training t-shirts in a neutral club colour and 15 warm-up hoodies. For youth teams (U13 through U19) quantities drop to 10–14 per kit. Women's teams often order only home plus training because away fixtures are less frequent. Live pricing in the configurator shows the volume tier per kit, so the treasurer or club board can budget the season directly.
From 10 jerseys — fits youth, men, women and seniors
Minimum order quantity is 10 jerseys — deliberately low so small youth teams (e.g. a U10 with 8 field players plus 2 substitutes) or senior hobby teams can order. The configurator supports free size distribution across all standard sizes (XS to 5XL for men, women's cut separate, youth sizes 128 to 176 cm). Mixed quantities across women's, men's and youth teams in one bulk order are possible — the total counts for the volume-tier discount. Example: a club with men's, women's and U19 teams orders 15 + 12 + 13 = 40 jerseys in one order and lands in the 20-pc tier with 10 % discount (tiered up to 32 % from 500 pcs).
Club jerseys by sport — the direct match
Every sport has its own jersey requirements — cut, fabric, back-number position, kit completeness. Our sport matrix maps the most common team sports to the right jersey models and brands.
Football — v-neck jersey, training t-shirt, warm-up hoodie
For classic regional-league football (men, women, U19) the standard is a v-neck jersey in 100 % polyester (Russell performance) or a classic heavy-cotton t-shirt (FOTL) for hobby teams without competition aspirations. Back number 200–250 mm tall to football-association rules, player-name lettering 70–100 mm tall above the back number. A training t-shirt in a third club colour (typically grey or black) plus a warm-up hoodie in the home club colour rounds out the kit. For printing a football jersey with a club logo, flock print or screen print is the right finishing — both durable for more than 80 washes at 60 °C.
Handball — tank-top or raglan jersey, with wristbands
Handball jerseys are sleeveless (tank-top) for men's and women's league play, or raglan with short sleeves for youth. Fabric: 100 % polyester for sweat management in the fast indoor sport. Back-number size per handball-association rules 250–300 mm tall. A full kit for a handball team comprises 14 player jerseys plus 1 goalkeeper jersey (in contrasting colour for referee visibility) plus training shirts. Wristbands are usually ordered separately — available as a club bundle on request.
Volleyball — women's cut and beach variant (tank-top plus shorts)
Volleyball jerseys come in two indoor variants and one beach variant. Indoor women wear a tailored women's cut (Russell or Stedman ladies') with the back number centred on the back; indoor men wear standard unisex jerseys in Russell performance fabric. Beach volleyball crews order tank-tops plus matching shorts — the set usually includes 4 tank-tops plus 4 shorts per player pair, because change shirts are frequently needed in sand play. Printing volleyball team shirts works best with sublimation print on polyester for maximum breathability.
Cycling crew — performance t-shirt plus sublimation bike jersey
Cycling clubs rarely order classic cotton jerseys; instead they choose performance jerseys in polyester with sublimation print (colour penetrates the fibre rather than sitting on top). Sublimation enables complete jersey designs with stripes, logos and sponsor bands in a single print session. Minimum quantity for sublimation is typically higher (from 15 jerseys), lead time slightly longer (10–14 working days instead of 5–8). For club warm-up hoodies before the start the Stanley/Stella Cruiser with embroidery also works. More on sublimation and performance-jersey finishing in the digital print hub.
Table tennis, tennis, badminton and others
Table-tennis shirts are usually short-sleeved polos (Russell polo or Stedman) — back-number rule applies only from district-league level, lower divisions need only the club logo on the chest. Tennis clubs almost always order polos with embroidery (wash-resistant, subtle). Badminton clubs order v-neck jerseys or polos in performance polyester. For all three sports, order quantities of 10–15 jerseys typically suffice. For specialist sports like korfball, floorball or hockey, individual range recommendations are available through consultation.
Three top jersey brands for teams
Three brands cover more than 90 % of club-jersey orders at ShirtStore. Selection criteria are competition suitability (performance fabric vs. classic), price tier (hobby teams need affordable options, league teams premium) and size range from youth to seniors.

The Fruit of the Loom Heavy Cotton T-Shirt is the proven classic for hobby teams, sports events without competition status and training shirts. Fabric: 100 % cotton, 195 gsm, robust and machine-washable to 60 °C. Sizes S to 5XL, women's cut "Valueweight Lady" available. Finishing: screen print (for full team runs) or flock print (for back numbers and player names). Pricing from €5.90 net at 25 pieces. Typical use case: hobby football team, training shirts across all sports, city-festival jerseys for club appearances.
Russell jerseys — performance polyester for competition
Russell Athletic is the established sports brand with a dedicated performance polyester line for competition jerseys. Fabric: 100 % polyester (performance), breathable and sweat-wicking. Sizes S to 4XL, women's cut available. Finishing: sublimation (premium, complete design in the fibre), flock print (for back numbers), screen print (for club logo). Pricing from €14.90 net at 25 pieces. Typical use case: regional-league football and above, district-league handball and above, league volleyball, cycling sublimation jerseys.
Gildan 5000 — cost-effective for large training-shirt runs
The Gildan 5000 Heavy Cotton T-Shirt is the cost-effective training-jersey variant for large runs from 50 pieces or for combined orders across several teams. Fabric: 100 % cotton, 180 gsm. Sizes S to 5XL in all standard club colours (red, blue, yellow, green, black, white). Finishing: screen print (optimal for large runs), flock print. Pricing from €4.50 net at 50 pieces. Typical use case: training shirts for 3–4 club teams at once, school sports clubs, summer-festival helper crews.
Printing methods for club jerseys
Three finishing methods come into play — the choice depends on the sport, the competition level and the number of prints per jersey.
Flock print for back numbers and player names (competition standard)
Flock print is the competition standard for back numbers and player names in football, handball, volleyball and other team sports. Mechanics: flex-film is cut and heat-pressed onto the jersey, slight raised texture visible and tactile. Advantages: extremely durable (80+ washes at 60 °C), very sharp edges, single or two-colour possible. Football-association rules allow flock print for all leagues from regional level. Player names typically use a block-sans typeface, minimum height 70 mm, maximum 100 mm. Setup surcharge per jersey €4.90 net.
Screen print for club logo chest and back
Screen print is the most economical finishing for the club logo on chest and back — especially for full team runs from 15 pieces. Mechanics: a screen frame with cut-out logo is filled with ink; ink is pressed through the screen onto the jersey. Advantages: brilliant solid colours, very long durability (50+ washes at 60 °C), low per-piece price at large runs. Minimum quantities per print colour about 15 jerseys, setup per colour one-off €25 net. For multi-colour club logos screen print works with up to 4 solid colours; beyond that, transfer print.
Sublimation print for performance jerseys (cycling, running)
Sublimation is the premium finishing for performance jerseys in cycling, running clubs and indoor volleyball leagues. Mechanics: colour is applied via heat and pressure directly into the polyester fibre — the colour is in the fibre, not on top. Advantages: complete jersey designs with gradients, stripes, sponsor bands in one session; no raised feel; full breathability preserved. Drawbacks: longer lead time (10–14 working days), higher minimum quantity (from 15 jerseys), polyester only. Setup per design one-off €49 net.
Ordering and volume staircase for clubs
Club-jersey orders follow a typical seasonal rhythm: spring (preparation for the football summer season), late summer (preparation for indoor handball and volleyball season), winter (re-orders for new players). Our configurator supports all three waves with template storage.
Volume staircase from 10 jerseys, full kits from 15
The volume staircase starts at 10 jerseys (training runs or small youth teams) and reaches 250+ jerseys (multi-team combined orders). A full kit (home + away + training + warm-up hoodie) becomes economical from 15 jerseys per kit. Volume tiers:
| Quantity | Discount tier | Example FOTL Heavy Cotton |
|---|---|---|
| from 3 pcs | T1 (3 %) | €7.90 |
| from 20 pcs | T2 (10 %) | €7.10 |
| from 50 pcs | T3 (15 %) | €6.70 |
| from 100 pcs | T4 (25 %) | €5.90 |
| from 200 pcs | T5 (30 %) | €5.55 |
| from 500 pcs | T6 (32 %) | €5.40 — custom on request |
The exact price per jersey, finishing method and quantity is calculated in the volume-discount calculator.
Season preparation — 4 to 6 weeks lead time before kick-off
For a full kit with individual player names and back numbers we recommend 4 to 6 weeks of lead time before season start. This breaks down into 1–2 weeks logo setup and design sign-off, 1 week for player-list collection (names, sizes, numbers), 1 week production and 1 week shipping with buffer. For a training-shirt bulk order without individual names, the standard 5–8 working-day lead time is enough.
Player names and back numbers via template list
Upload the player list as Excel or CSV in the configurator. Columns: player name (block-sans uppercase recommended, maximum 14 characters), back number (1–99), size, jersey variant (home/away/training). The configurator validates input automatically: duplicate back numbers are flagged, special characters in names caught, size plausibility checked against standard club sizes. Templates are stored 2 seasons (= 24 months) — a re-order for the next season or a new joiner runs in one click in the account dashboard.
Trust and compliance for clubs
Club boards check two compliance aspects before any jersey procurement: freedom from harmful substances per OEKO-TEX (player safety, especially for youth teams) and league conformity to football, handball and volleyball association rules (competition eligibility).
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 for player safety
All three recommended brands (Fruit of the Loom, Russell, Gildan) carry OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification — harmful-substance testing against more than 100 criteria. Especially for youth teams (U10 down to U12) OEKO-TEX is a central purchase criterion because jerseys are worn directly on sweaty skin. Russell additionally has its own ESG certification (visible on hangtag) documenting sourcing through certified production facilities.
League conformity (DFB, DHB, DVV rules)
The football-association rule book sets jersey and lettering rules for all leagues from regional level: back number 200–300 mm tall, player name 70–100 mm tall above the back number, sponsor logo maximum 200 cm² on the chest and maximum 1,000 cm² on the back under the back number. Equivalent rules apply for handball (DHB) and volleyball (DVV) associations. Our configurator stores these rules as default settings so competition eligibility is automatic. For youth teams below regional level the rules are less strict.
