Vector Beats Pixel — Especially for Embroidery and Screen Print
Whenever possible, upload a vector file (AI, EPS, PDF, SVG). Vectors are losslessly scalable — whether 4 cm chest logo or 30 cm back motif, the lines stay razor sharp.
Pixel files (PNG, JPG) are possible, but:
- Embroidery needs clear contours — pixel templates have to be converted to vector before stitching. We do that, but vectoring saves you the wait.
- Screen print requires clean colour areas — washed-out pixel templates produce dirty prints.
- Digital print (DTG) and DTF print are more tolerant, but the higher the resolution the better the result.
Minimum Resolution for Pixel Files
For PNG or JPG we need at least 300 dpi (dots per inch) in the final print size. That means: if your logo is to be printed 20 cm wide, the file at 300 dpi needs at least 2,362 pixels in width (20 cm × 118 dpi/cm). A logo with 800 pixels width is only enough for a 6.8 cm wide print motif.
Rule of thumb:
- Chest logo (10-15 cm): minimum 1,500 pixels wide
- Back print A4 (21 cm): minimum 2,500 pixels wide
- Large back print (30+ cm): minimum 3,500 pixels wide or better vector
Colour Mode — CMYK for Print, Pantone for Screen Print
For most techniques CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key) is the right colour mode. We convert from RGB if needed.
For screen print with brand colour fidelity we recommend Pantone specification (PMS codes). If your corporate design relies on a specific Pantone value (e.g. PMS 286 C for a mid-blue), share the value. We mix the print colour accordingly.
We Vectorise Your Logo Free of Charge from PNG or JPG
If you only have a pixel logo (e.g. downloaded from the web or created years ago), don't worry — we vectorise your logo free of charge. Just ask us. We need the pixel file in the best quality you have, and we send back the clean vector version (AI or PDF). You can also reuse it for other purposes.
For very complex designs (photo-realism, gradients, photo-realistic elements) a 1:1 vectorisation isn't always sensible — here we use digital print or DTF, since these techniques handle pixel templates directly.
Fonts — Convert to Paths or Send Along
Does your logo contain text or letterings? Two options:
- Convert to paths — In Adobe Illustrator: "Type → Create Outlines". In Inkscape: "Path → Object to Path". The font becomes a vector shape and you no longer need to send the font file.
- Send the font file — Send us the OTF or TTF file, then we install it in our prepress. Please respect commercial font licensing.
