Class hoodies are a classic school bulk order that comes up in five typical occasions: graduating class (primary school, secondary school, sixth form), class trip (3- to 7-day excursion, often May or June), school project week or school festival, sports clubs, school band or theatre group, and university student-society or mentor programmes. Each occasion has its own lead times, design language and buyer persona. Our 4-step bulk workflow is tailored to the three most common organising personas — class teacher, parent committee and class representative.

Who organises? Teacher, parent committee or class representative

In practice one of three personas takes on the organisation. First, the class teacher in years 5 to 10 — usually decides personally, collects sizes via a class list, and the parent committee pays up-front. Second, the parent committee at primary school — owns the entire organisation and uses the treasurer prepayment model. Third, the class representative in the sixth form — a self-organising year group that often runs a bulk order through a shared year-group account. The same workflow works for all three personas; only the payment logic differs.

Bulk order benefits over individual buying

A bulk order beats 28 individual orders on three measurable levers. First, price — a class hoodie is 35 to 50 % cheaper per piece through the volume staircase than an individual order at a print-on-demand vendor. Second, consistency — all hoodies are identical in colour, sizing logic and print position, with no cross-brand mixtures that ruin the class photo. The B&C Open Hood is the only class hoodie on the market designed specifically for primary and middle-school students up to year 9 — drawcord-free at the neck, meeting the safety norm EN 14682:2014. This norm forbids drawcords in the neck area for children's clothing up to size 134 (around age 9). Fabric: 80 % cotton / 20 % polyester, 280 gsm — a classic mid-weight that works year-round in the classroom. Fruit of the Loom Premium hoodie — proven classic up to sixth form

The FOTL Premium 70/30 Hooded Sweat is the proven middle-school classic for years 7 to 10, sports clubs and pre-sixth-form classes. Fabric: 70 % cotton / 30 % polyester, 280 gsm. Sizes XS women's to 5XL unisex. Finishing: screen print (for classic class runs from 25 pieces), transfer print (for complex multi-colour logos) and embroidery (for sports-club crests or school badges). Stanley/Stella Cruiser — organic hoodie for sixth form and university

The Stanley/Stella Cruiser 2.0 is the premium organic hoodie for ESG-aware school communities, sixth-form years and university student societies. Fabric: 100 % organic ring-spun cotton, 350 gsm. Certifications: GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and Fair Wear Foundation. Sizes XXS to 3XL, unisex plus the women's cut "Drummer". Finishing: DTG print (premium, 1,200 × 1,200 dpi resolution for photographic quality and pixel-art logos) or embroidery for classic wordmarks. Pricing from €32 net at 25 pieces. Typical use case: sixth-form leavers ("Class of 2026" motifs with gradients or photo prints), university societies, and sustainability-minded parent communities that explicitly ask for organic materials. For a 30-student sixth-form year, the cost lands at around €32 per hoodie — slightly more than the standard brands but with documented ESG certifications.

Bulk-order workflow for class hoodies

The workflow runs in four clearly separated steps. Recommended lead time: at least three weeks before the event (class trip, graduation, school festival), giving you a buffer for size corrections and unexpected late additions.

Step 1 — survey in class (size list)

In the penultimate school week before the order, you collect sizes — typically via an Excel or Google Sheets template with the columns name, size (XS / S / M / L / XL / 2XL) and notes. On request we supply a ready-made class-list template — please add the request in the enquiry form. Recommendation for class trips: start the survey in mid-May so the order goes out at the start of June and the hoodie arrives in time for the trip in July. For sixth-form hoodies many year groups start the size survey already in February so the hoodie is ready for the leavers' week in April.

Step 2 — design in the configurator

Build the design directly in the configurator — no log-in required. Upload logo or class motif (PNG, JPG, AI, SVG are all accepted), pick the standard position on the left chest (10 × 10 cm) and back (25 × 30 cm), maintain sizes, and the live mockup shows the hoodie immediately with the design. Very practical for parent-committee sign-off: share the save link by email so all parents or class representatives can approve the design before ordering. Classic school motifs are year numbers (e.g. "Class of 2026" or "Year 4b Graduation 2026"), class lists with all first names as a word-cluster on the back, or school name plus city.

Step 3 — fill the quantity grid per size

The quantity grid is a per-size input form — XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL up to 5XL. You enter the count per size, the configurator calculates the live price automatically and shows the volume-tier discount. Auto-check: the minimum order quantity is 10 pieces (a very small class or a club). For a typical class of 28 students you land automatically in the 20-pc tier (10 %) — a class of 50+ would unlock the 50-pc tier (15 %).

Step 4 — order and distribute in school

After ordering you receive a confirmation by email with mockup PDF and exact delivery date. EU shipping in 5–8 working days including DHL tracking. Very important: one delivery contact, usually the class teacher or school secretariat — no individual deliveries to 28 student addresses. Distribution in school works best in a Thursday special period or in the first pre-class-trip briefing, so every student picks up their hoodie in person and the teacher can match the distribution against the class list.

Design inspiration for class motifs

Class motifs follow three classic patterns we see in most school orders.

Graduating class (sixth form, secondary leavers, primary leavers)

Sixth-form leaver-hoodie design follows a fixed pattern: the year number prominently on the back ("Class of 2026" or "Leavers 2026"), the class photo or class list with all first names as a word cluster, plus school name and city small on the chest. For sixth-form leaver hoodies we recommend the Stanley/Stella Cruiser with DTG print because the resolution renders photo and pixel-art logos cleanly. Primary-school leaver t-shirts also work well with the Cruiser; for primary schools, however, B&C Open Hood is the norm-compliant choice because of the drawcord-free construction. Class-trip crew (Berlin, Munich, ski trip, exchange to the UK)

Class-trip t-shirts and hoodies follow the travel-branding pattern: destination and travel date ("Year 7b Berlin Tour May 2026" or "Ski Camp Sölden 2026"), class designation as a big lettering on the back and a small travel icon (Berlin bear, ski hut, London bus) as an accent. School festival and project weeks

Cost per student — what should a class hoodie cost?

The realistic per-student price range is 20 to 35 € including printing, depending on brand and run length. We publish the prices transparently as a table — no haggling, no phone-only quotes, no hidden printing surcharges.

Parent-committee bulk logic (prepayment, pre-order, payment)

The parent-committee treasurer logic runs in three steps. First the parent committee opens a bulk-order treasury account (or uses an existing class account). Second the class teacher collects individual amounts up-front via a sign-up list — usually with a deadline two weeks before ordering. Third the parent committee transfers the total amount to ShirtStore by prepayment or invoices on account — the latter is available without credit check for school secretariats from €100 order value. Trust and school safety

Schools and educational bodies check two central compliance aspects before any bulk order: the safety norm for children's clothing (EN 14682 for drawcords at the neck) and the freedom from harmful substances under OEKO-TEX Standard. Both are documented across our school range.

Drawcord-free = EN 14682 for primary and middle schools

EN 14682:2014 is the EU safety norm for children's clothing and forbids drawcords at the neck for garments up to size 134 (around age 9). The background is the risk of strangulation on playgrounds or while climbing. The B&C Open Hood is explicitly drawcord-free — no cord, no eyelet, but a pre-formed hood opening. This meets EN 14682 for the complete primary and middle-school range up to year 8. From year 9 (students 14+) the norm restriction is lifted; there you can also order standard hoodies with drawcords (e.g. FOTL Premium).

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 plus Stanley/Stella GOTS organic

All three recommended brands (B&C Open Hood, FOTL Premium, Stanley/Stella Cruiser) carry OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification — testing for harmful substances against more than 100 criteria, legally binding in the EU for skin-contact textiles. Stanley/Stella additionally carries GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) for organic cotton and is a Fair Wear Foundation member with quarterly sourcing audits. For ESG-aware school communities and parent-committee initiatives that explicitly request organic materials, the Cruiser is the right choice.
