Performance material guide — organic cotton vs. polyester for run shirts

Material decides comfort, breathability and durability. Three material classes cover the market.

Material Breathability Moisture wicking Skin tolerance Price range
Standard cotton (Gildan Softstyle) medium weak very good €6–10/pc.
Organic cotton 190 gsm (B&C Inspire) high medium very good €9–14/pc.
Polyester performance (Tee Jays CoolDry, FOTL Performance) very high very good good €8–15/pc.

Rule of thumb: marathon (over 20 km) → polyester performance or Stanley/Stella Sprinter. 5–10 km crew run → B&C Inspire organic (cools, breathes, looks premium). Training shirt several times a week → B&C Inspire (more durable than polyester after 50+ washes).

The 5 best models for marathon and run events

    Model 2 — Tee Jays Sof-Tee 5000 / CoolDry Sport (from €11.90 per piece)

Tee Jays delivers stretch performance polyester with moisture-wicking technology. CoolDry variant for intense competition training. Sublimation-print compatible, sweat-resistant. Recommended for marathon crews with performance ambition.

Stanley/Stella Sprinter is the premium organic performance model: GOTS certified, Fair Wear Foundation member, athletic cut with mesh inserts at the back. For premium marathon crews and club competition tees.

    Model 4 — FOTL Performance T 61-390 (from €4.90 per piece)

Fruit of the Loom Performance is the budget polyester option for 50+ charity-run crews. Full-colour sublimation possible, good breathability, very cheap in 100-piece runs.

    Model 5 — Stedman Comfort-T 185 ST2100 (from €7.20 per piece)

Stedman Comfort-T is the recommendation for charity walks and crews without performance ambition — beginner runners, family charity runs, walk events. 185 gsm cotton, EU-made, OEKO-TEX.

Run-shirt printing techniques — what survives sweat and the washing machine?

For performance shirts the technique choice matters. Four techniques apply:

    • Sublimation print — polyester-only, full-colour motifs, sweat-resistant, near-indestructible. Standard for pro marathon tees. More in our printing comparison.
    • DTG digital print — cotton, full-colour, less sweat-resistant but cheap from 1 piece. Recommended for 5–10 km charity crews on B&C Inspire.
    • Flex print — for pure lettering (club name, bib number), very durable, UV-stable. Standard for run numbers on the back.
    • Screen print — from 25 pieces with 1–3 colours, classic for charity-run logos. 50+ washes at 60 °C.

Marathon shirts for clubs and training crews

Running clubs, training crews and run-meets typically order 10–50 shirts per season: a training standard plus a competition premium.

Crew size B&C Inspire organic Tee Jays CoolDry Stanley/Stella Sprinter
    10-set €11.90/pc. €14.90/pc. €17.90/pc.
    25-set €9.90/pc. €12.90/pc. €15.90/pc.
    50-set €8.90/pc. €11.90/pc. €14.90/pc.

Club logo + bib number block: logo front (left chest, 8 × 8 cm), number back (centre, 25 × 25 cm) — standard layout, free prep. Club invoice ordering via clubs.

    Training shirts for sport clubs

Multi-season concept: 2–3 training shirts plus 1 competition shirt per season. Training standard B&C Inspire #T190 (organic, durable, cools), competition premium Stanley/Stella Sprinter (mesh inserts, performance cut). Both from 1 piece, size charts per model in the configurator.

Charity-run shirts — visibility for a good cause

Charity runs have a standardised layout: foundation logo front, sponsor logos back, donation statement on the side. We build the layout mockup before print free of charge — you say how many sponsors, we deliver a PDF for approval.

Quantity B&C Inspire organic FOTL Performance budget
    50-set €8.90/pc. €5.90/pc.
    100-set €7.90/pc. €4.90/pc.
    200-set €6.90/pc. €4.40/pc.

Organic recommendation matches the charity values profile. FOTL Performance is the budget option for 100+ participants.

Corporate-run shirts — make the office crew visible

Corporate-run crews typically come from HR or office managers. Recommendation: B&C Inspire (premium feel, organic) plus embroidery for the company logo instead of DTG. Looks more premium and matches corporate identity. Large orders with invoice via business clients.

    Yoga and fitness-studio crew shirts

    • Yoga: Stanley/Stella Sprinter or B&C Inspire — organic, soft grip, breathable. Both available tailored.
    • Fitness-studio crew: Tee Jays CoolDry for the trainer team. Polyester performance, moisture-wicking, good for intense training.

Frequently asked questions about marathon and run shirts

Which t-shirt is best for marathon runners?

For marathon over 20 km we recommend polyester performance: Tee Jays CoolDry or Stanley/Stella Sprinter with mesh inserts. Both moisture-wicking, sweat-resistant, athletic cut. For 5–10 km crew runs B&C Inspire organic (190 gsm, cools) is enough. For charity walks without performance demands Stedman Comfort-T suffices.

What does a printed run shirt cost in a 10-set?

In a 10-set between €8.90 (B&C Inspire single-colour) and €17.90 (Stanley/Stella Sprinter with mesh). Charity sets from 50 pieces on FOTL Performance from €5.90. Live pricing in the configurator including volume discount. Full pricing at cheap t-shirt printing.

    Which printing technique is sweat-resistant?

Sublimation on polyester is most sweat-resistant — colour is in the fibre, not on top. Flex print is the second-best choice for lettering and bib numbers. DTG on cotton holds moderately under sweat — ideal for charity walks, less for marathon competition.

How does print on polyester performance shirts hold up?

Sublimation on polyester lasts practically forever (100+ washes at 40 °C without visible fading). Flex print on polyester lasts 50+ washes but is more vulnerable to mechanical strain. DTG on polyester technically works but isn't optimal — sublimation is the standard here.

Do you offer organic performance shirts for eco-conscious crews?

Yes, three models: B&C Inspire #T190 (OEKO-TEX, FairTrade), Stanley/Stella Creator (GOTS, Fair Wear Foundation) and Stanley/Stella Sprinter (GOTS, performance cut). All three printable from 1 piece. Organic fabrics cool one to two degrees more than standard cotton.

How long does delivery take for marathon shirts?

Standard 5–7 working days incl. finishing. Express 2–3 working days on request (+20 %). In marathon peak season (spring, autumn) always 4 weeks lead time.

Can I print bib numbers on the run shirts?

Yes — bib numbers (start number, club number) via flex print on the back, centred, 25 × 25 cm. Numeric range 0 to 9999. One-time setup surcharge per crew: €15 for numbering prep.

What sizes are available for marathon crews?

Women XS–2XL, men S–4XL with B&C Inspire. Tee Jays CoolDry S–3XL unisex. Stanley/Stella Sprinter XS–3XL unisex with women's variant. For mixed crews ask sizes ahead — chart per model in the configurator.

Do you offer long-sleeve or tank tops for marathon?

Yes — long-sleeve run shirts (Tee Jays Long Sleeve Sport, B&C Inspire Long Sleeve) from €12.90, ideal for spring/autumn marathons. Tank tops (B&C Wonder Bio Tank) from €9.90 for summer charity runs. Both printable from 1 piece.
